Many lesions are inflammatory with purulent discharge, and alopecia is noted over nodules. The patient reports clinical worsening after mental and physical stress. He has been treated with oral antibiotics, such as clindamycin hydrochloride and erythromycin, with poor response.

Some patients respond more rapidly to immune therapies like ipilimumab, and clinicians have observed delayed toxicities with prolonged use of checkpoint inhibitors; effective treatments for subtypes of melanoma, such as uveal melanoma, have not yet emerged.

The signs and symptoms of some dermatologic and rheumatologic diseases sometimes overlap, and a better understanding of their associations and subsequent clinical and laboratory evaluations can help in optimizing the treatment and management of this patient population.
