Rochester, Minn. - Injecting botulinum toxin (Botox, Allergan) into muscles surrounding forehead wounds enhances the appearance of scars when they have healed, the Mayo Clinic reports.

Researchers compared botulinum toxin injections to inactive placebo injections in 31 patients with healed forehead lacerations, Reuters reports.

The average rating for scar appearance on a scale ranging from 0 to 10 (the ideal outcome) after six months was 8.9 for the toxin-treated group and 7.2 for the placebo group, a significant improvement.
